HOW TO PRODUCE METHYLATED SPIRIT
Methylated spirits (“metho”) is a mixture of ethyl alcohol (10%), methyl alcohol (65%), IPA (20%) and water (5%).
The four chemicals are mixable i.e. dissolve in one another, the Methyl Alcohol is poisonous and is added to prevent the Methylated Spirits being used as cheap drinking alcohol and also as a blood clothing.
Ethyl alcohol: Ethyl Alcohol, or Ethanol, is produced by the fermentation of sugars, or from direct synthesis from ethylene. It is a renewable energy source.
Ethanol’s formula is C2H5OH. Its boiling point is 78.5°C, and its melting point is -117.3°C.
Ethanol burns with a hot, pale-blue flame. It is miscible with water. Uses include consumption in alcoholic beverages, a solvent, an anti-freeze solution, and a fuel. Ethanol is used as an additive to car fuel and is burnt with liquid oxygen in some rocket engines. When Ethanol is burnt in air, the results of combustion are carbon dioxide and water.
Methyl alcohol: Methyl alcohol, or methanol, is also sometimes called wood spirit. It is produced by the destructive distillation of wood, or by a synthetic process which involves reacting carbon monoxide with hydrogen gas.
Methanol’s formula is CH3OH. Its boiling point is 64.6°C, and its melting point is -97°C. Methanol burns with a pale, non- luminous flame. It is poisonous and, if consumed, causes blindness, insanity, and eventual death. It is commonly used as a denaturant for ethyl alcohol, and is miscible with water.
it is carcinogenic when used excessively on some tissues
Isopropanol Alcohol (IPA): In addition to providing an outlet for chemical experimentation in the lab, isopropyl alcohol can be found in nearly any home medicine cabinet. In fact, it was once the popular choice for medicinal rubdowns hence the nickname “rubbing alcohol.” When applied to the skin, the water component quickly evaporates, cooling the skin’s surface and rapidly reducing body temperature. For this reason, it was once recommended for reducing fever in children. However, since rapid decrease in temperature is now considered detrimental, health care professionals no longer recommend the use of it for this purpose. It clot human blood.
It is also called isopropyl alcohol
EQUIPMENT’S/APPARATUS USED IN SPIRIT PRODUCTION
Bowl
Stirrer
Measuring cylinder
Weighing balance
Filter cloth
CHEMICALS /INGREDIENTS USED IN METHYLATED SPIRIT PRODUCTION
Ethyl alcohol (ethanol) 10%
Methyl alcohol (Methanol) 65%
Isopropanol Alcohol (IPA) 20%
Water( 5%)
PRODUCTION PROCESS FOR METHYLATEDSPIRIT
Methylated spirit is produce under a simple reaction process between Ethyl alcohol (Ethanol) and Methyl alcohol (Methanol). The two chemicals are mixable i.e. dissolve in one another. 10% of Ethyl alcohol is measure out in separate bowl and mix with 80% Methyl alcohol or Methanol and 10% of Water then stir well and allow it to stay for some hours for complete reaction before packaging.
looking carefully at the above formulations, we have two different formulas they are all good and effective and accepted by regulators
USES FOR METHYLATED SPIRIT
Methylated spirit is a handy solvent for cleaning applications such as removing water based paint, cleaning of wounds, face cleaning and mouth washing, etc.
NB: Methylated sprit is pure Methanol.
Methylated spirit Post Production
After the completion of the reaction, filter the product with white filter cloth, to remove the dirt then package in a container of your choice.
NB: Always use transparent container for your product, and also know that the more the beauty of your container the more attractive your product look like and the more it attract your customer attention.
